Jorge Perez (裴樵志 – Péi Qiáo Zhì) was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1984. He graduated from Simón Bolívar University in 2010 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In pursuit of academic and professional growth, he moved to Barcelona, Spain in 2012 on a scholarship, where he earned two master’s degrees: one in Project Management (2013) and another in Supply Chain Management (2014).
In 2015, Jorge relocated to the United States, where he continued to advance both his professional career and his lifelong dedication to Chinese martial arts.
Jorge began his martial arts journey at the age of five, training under Yunys Zapata, then the world runner-up in Sanda combat. Early on, he showed exceptional skill in combat, traditional forms, and weapons, earning numerous titles at the National Kung Fu Championships in Venezuela. His competitive success earned him a spot on the Venezuelan national team from 1997 to 2012, and later on the USA National Team from 2016 to 2022 when he retired.
Over the years, Jorge has earned multiple gold medals across national, South American, Pan American, and world-level championships. He competed in the World Kung Fu Championships (WKC) in China (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 representing Venezuela, and 2017 representing the USA). The WKC is organized by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF) and is considered the world’s premier Kung Fu competition. Jorge has won a total of 12 medals at the WKC: 3 gold, 6 silver, and 3 bronze.
Additionally, Jorge earned the title of NASKA World Champion in Black Belt Chinese Forms and Weapons in both 2016 and 2017 on the prestigious North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA) circuit.
He currently holds a 3rd-degree black belt and possesses deep expertise in multiple traditional Chinese martial arts systems, including Liu He Tanglangquan (Six Harmonies Mantis), Qixing Tanglangquan (Seven Stars Mantis), Baji Quan, Bagua Zhang, and Pigua Zhang.
In 2007, Jorge was formally accepted as a Dìzǐ (disciple) by his teacher Yunys Zapata, entering the WUTAN lineage founded by the renowned Taiwanese grandmaster Liu Yun Qiao. His lineage is as follows:
Liu Yun Qiao → Tai She Che → Yunys Zapata → Jorge Perez
This direct lineage affirms the authenticity and depth of Jorge’s training in traditional Chinese martial arts.
In recognition of his dedication, martial character, and commitment to continuing the legacy of traditional Kung Fu, Jorge was honored in 2022 by his martial aunt 黃金鷹 Huángjīn Yīng with a Chinese name: 裴樵志 (Péi Qiáo Zhì).
裴 (Péi) honors his family name “Perez”
樵 (Qiáo) comes from Liu Yun Qiao, linking him symbolically and spiritually to the WUTAN founder
志 (Zhì) means “ambition”
Together, 樵志 (Qiáo Zhì) reflects his ambition to become a great martial artist in the spirit of Liu Yun Qiao, embodying both humility and determination on the lifelong path of martial cultivation.
