Master Yunys Zapata

Yunys Zapata was born in Palmarito, Apure State, Venezuela in 1962. A very small village that lives of agriculture, livestock and fishing. This master comes from a large and humble family.

From a young age, his family sent him to the capital city Caracas to attend high school. At the age of 13, watching a Chinese Kung-Fu movie, also known as Wu-Shu, he felt the curiosity to learn this millennial martial art. As Kung Fu in Venezuela was not well known, he then started his Training in another martial art for a short time, however, realized that this was not what he was looking for, as he was hoping to find the meaning of the message that the movie he had seen had left in him.
After long searching among the existing martial arts schools in Caracas, he finally found a school with true northern Chinese traditional Kung Fu Masters coming from Taiwan, his name was “Shaolin Kung Fu Martial Arts School La Danza del Dragon” located at El Paraiso, Caracas.
This school had only recently opened, when Zapata went in and saw a demonstration of Kung Fu / Wu Shu (1976). Praying Mantis, Pachi (Baji), Pakua (Bagua), Shing Yi (Xin Yi), Pikua and Tai Chi Chuan (Taiji Quan) styles were taking place and performed by the masters Tai She Che, Su Yu Chang and 16 more students. The school’s director was Luis Chang Fung, whom all generations of practitioners at this gym are grateful for his initiative in bringing these great masters. He later joined another school in 1979, called Fu Shun Nan, Shaolin and Shuai Chiao (Chinese Wrestling).
In 1976, he began his training with the grand master Tai She Che, with whom he learned the styles Tang Lang Quan (Praying Mantis), Pachi, Pikua, Pakua, Xin Yi and Tai Chi Chuan.

In 1980, after 4 years of intense training, grand master Tai She Che chooses Master Yunys Zapata for the fourth generation of discipleship as one of the highest-level disciples.
From the beginning, he was a national and international competition athlete in this school. In 1986, he reaches the podium and takes first place at the fifth World Championship held in Taiwan, one of the most inspiring goals for athletes who follow him and train kung fu with him. “Traveling to Taiwan with a very small team, along with grand master Fu Shun Nan and leaving as champion was the best experience of my life,” he says.
In 1982, he began his career as a coach teaching Kung fu at the school that saw him grow up as a Kung Fu practitioner at the “Shaolin Kung fu La Danza del Dragon” martial arts school.
